With just a few lines, as the quote from Leonardo at the beginning of this text states, entire worlds can be created. As early as the 16th century, drawings from renowned artists were appreciated for their aesthetic qualities, irrespective of their function in the creative process, as holds true today – the artist's energy is concentrated in a direct, even spontaneous fashion. ![]() ‘The original function of the drawings selected by Brown, whether they are loose sketches, studies of individual figures or detailed preparatory drawings for paintings, should not really concern him or us. The art of drawing has such excellent qualities that it not only follows the works of nature but produces infinitely more creations than nature itself. ![]()
